How much can I bring in duty free to Japan?

SUBTITLE

According to the Japanese laws, you’re subject to duties if you claim that your personal belongings are more than 300,000 YEN. Since we were shipping with Nippon Express, they basically don’t cover insurance over $2000.00  CAD. Anything over, you need to top up with insurance. That was a nightmare in itself, as we had to list out all the items in our boxes and give it a dollar value when packing it up. Anyhow, shipping and insurance is another topic in itself.

Anyhow, I’ve got a fair bit of wine, and I was considering moving them over as well. At the end of the day, I decided not to, and to leave my collection home. If I were to bring say 30 bottles of wine over, I’d have to be 150 YEN per bottle of 750 ml of wine. Not too bad. Considering importing alcohol to Canada is 200% duties.
